AMC Schedule & Directions:

All waves take place at Sol's Reprieve, aka  Studio 11 at 11 Richland St. Asheville NC 28806 (directions below)

Sundays

1st/Early Wave: 8:30 am warmup, 9 am circle opens

Doors close at 9am sharp until the end of the dance (latecomers are not allowed at the early wave in order to preserve the intimacy and safety of the dance)

Dance ends by 10:30 am


2nd Wave: 10:30 am warmup, 11 am circle opens

At 11 our doors close for the opening circle. At this time the dance leader will explain our guidelines, open the circle, and the dance begins. Once the music begins our doors open once more. So you can be late, but we strongly encourage you to make it for the opening circle!

Dances are generally finished by 12:30.
We provide free childcare during the second wave on Sundays (and attended children are welcome in the dance as well).


Thursdays:
6:30 pm warmup, 7:00 dance begins

Fridays:

7:00 pm warmup, 7:30 dance begins

From I 240 and Patton Avenue (West Asheville/Downtown:
1. Head southwest on I-240 W toward Exit 4A 0.1 mi
2. Take exit 4A to merge onto I-26 W/US-19 N/US-23 N/US-70 W toward Weaverville/Woodfin 0.3 mi
3. Exit onto Hill St 0.2 mi
4. Turn left at Riverside Dr 0.5 mi
5. Take the 1st right onto W Haywood St 0.2 mi
6. W Haywood St turns slightly left and becomes Craven St 0.2 mi
7. Turn right at Waynesville Ave 102 ft
8. Take the 1st right onto Richland St 11 Richland S. is on the right

From I 240 South Asheville NC:

Thanks for volunteering-it's what makes AMC happen! When you arrive ask who is the Room coordinator  for that shift. Your room coordinator will give you tasks/instructions. The below duties will give you a general idea of some of the things you may be asked to do. 

Event Volunteer Task Descriptions:

***SUNDAY MORNING***
 

Set up early wave (2 volunteers)
Arrive 8 am PROMPT
Unload and set up sound equipment (see separate instructions)
Clear room of any items. Put AMC Lost and Found out in lobby.
Dust broom and then damp mop the floor
Set up Greeting Tables:
Money basket with the $20 of $5 bills for change (found in the money pouch marked “Early Wave”)
Please-Pay-$5 Sign
AMC Mailing List Sign-Up
Feedback Book and Volunteer Book (from speaker bag pocket).
First Aid Kit and Lost and Found goes on long thin table to the side.
Set up Easel with the Community Announcement board
Greeters: Collect money, give warm hellos. Help orient anyone who looks new.
Explain the Volunteer System to anyone interested or without money. Explain that by signing onto the volunteer contact list and helping you take down the speakers after the dance, their entrance is free today.
At 9:00 hang the “Do Not Enter: Dance wave now in session” sign on the door
Neatly organize the money collected, put it in money pouch (with the Change back in the money clip) and hand off to facilitator.
You are done: Enjoy the dance!

 

2nd Wave and Clean Up

(2 volunteers)
BEFORE WAVE
Arrive promptly at 10:30am or even a little before. It is possible that the early wave may be finishing up their circle, and the door may still be locked before 10:30. If other dancers begin to arrive, let them know that the early wave is still in session and the doors will reopen at 10:30. You can start your shift by signing in dancers arriving for the second wave. The sign in binder is green and will be left on the deck table. 


Greeters: Put the Change (4 five-dollar bills from “2nd Wave” money pouch) into the basket. Collect money, give warm hellos, orient new folks.
Explain the Volunteer System to anyone interested, or without money. Explain that by signing onto the volunteer contact list and helping you take down the speakers after the dance, their entrance is free today.
Hold latecomers quietly at the door during opening circle- admit when music begins.
Leaving a few $5 bills for change in the money basket, neatly organize the money collected and put it in pouch marked “2nd Wave”. Hand off to facilitator, and go dance!


AFTER WAVE
Take down sound equipment and load it up. Make sure Volunteer calendar is in the side pocket of speaker bag.
Collect remaining money from the basket. Pull $20 worth of $5 bills as change for next week, and put in money clip. Give this and all remaining money to the facilitator.
Put away front desk stuff in our big box, stow upstairs; Put away Easel and Notice Board
Close windows and sweep if necessary
Collect any AMC lost and found and put in our box upstairs

 

*** FRIDAY NIGHT***

2 volunteers
BEFORE WAVE

Arrive 6:30 pm PROMPT
Carry sound equipment upstairs and set up (see separate instructions)
Dust broom the floor, (damp mop if necessary)
Set up greeters’ table
Money Basket,
Please-Pay-$5 sign,
AMC mailing list signup

Feedback book
and Liability WAIVERS
Put the $20 of $5 bills (in the blue zip pouch kept in the tupperware box) into the money basket as change.
Greeters: Collect money, welcome lovingly. Help orient anyone who looks new.
During opening circle, hold latecomers quietly at the door, ‘til music begins.
Neatly organize the money collected, put in the blue zip pouch and give to facilitator.
Leave the greeting table set up (with a few $5 bills for change in the money basket), then come on in and dance!

 

AFTER WAVE
Take down sound equipment, carry downstairs, and load up. Make sure Volunteer calendar is in the side pocket of speaker bag.
Collect remaining money from the basket. Pull $20 worth of $5 bills as change for next week, and put in money clip. Give this and any remaining money to the facilitator.
Put away AMC mailing list and 1st Aid Kit etc into the AMC box; stow on bottom shelf behind curtain. Place waivers in their file.
Sweep for the next users. Check for incriminating fingerprints etc on mirror and wash if necessary. Close windows. Assist facilitator to fill out closing checklist.

Thursday and Friday waves at Sol's Reprieve (Studio 11) begin first week in January. 
Thursdays: 6:30pm warmup, 7:00 wave
Fridays: 7:00pm warmup, 7:30 wave
Sundays: early wave-8:30 am warmup, 9:00 wave (doors close at 9 sharp) 
late wave-10:30 am warmup, 11 am wave (doors reopen after opening circle)

We are organized to facilitate regular dance waves for all. We practice the dance wave as a spiritual experience, and acknowledge that this links us to our individual and collective healing and creates community. We gather and dance with authenticity, personal responsibility, and sensitivity to others. In doing so we are creating a beautiful, vibrant, and ever evolving community. We believe each dancer is a cherished part of the whole and each experience matters. We welcome your presence to our site ......We invite you to come and dance with us!
