SUMMARY:The Body Is the Score
DESCRIPTION:The Body Is the Score\nFriday\, November 29th\nFacilitator: Sara Bensman \nA storm blows through and just as it shifts the ground beneath our feet and knocks down trees\, it also stirs up the grief and trauma that has been living in our bodies and overpowers our normal defenses. Dance has always brought us back to our bodies when we feel uprooted or vulnerable. Research now shows that bilateral movements\, shaking and stretching can release trauma\, but as a species\, we have always known this instinctively. This dance is an opportunity to find whatever continues to cling to your spine\, fascia or heart and to offer it up to the rhythms and movement.

SUMMARY:Walk About
DESCRIPTION:Walk About\nSunday\, November 24th\nFacilitator: Rory Jagdeo \nDuring 2020\, I wrote a book called WALK ABOUT: Searching For The Epic Life – A Guyanese Memoir. The phrase “walk about” is used extensively in the Caribbean and British Colonies to mean taking a simple\, leisurely walk down the road\, to explore the village life\, or to seek adventures in a neighboring village. This phrase was also used to mean going to the farm lands\, fishing in the swamps\, playing and dancing in the park\, or tending to the herd in the savannahs. Later in life\, I personally referred to it as riding a bicycle\, driving a car\, or taking a flight as a form of “walk about” experience. The possibilities and adventures are endless in our lives. \nThis Sunday\, I invite you to come “walk about” with me through our dance experience. Take a journey through music with big and small movements while finding healing as we all search for our version of the “Epic Life”.

SUMMARY:Saturday\, Nov 23\, 2024\, Eco Grief Dance at Lake Eden Barn
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, November 23rd\nTemple of Seaweed presents\nEco Grief Dance at Lake Eden Barn\n5:30 pm to 7:15 pm\nLake Eden Barn\n377 Lake Eden Road\, Black Mountain\, NC \nSponsors Leaf\, AMC\, and StarTribe\nFacilitators: Sara Bensman and Jeannie Adair \nHow do you express grief in the aftermath of a natural disaster? Just putting those two words together – natural and disaster – feels contrary to the human spirit. \nPrior to Hurricane Helene\, Western North Carolina was flourishing in its first stages of foliage season. Now? We are faced with grief beyond individual and collective comprehension. So many people feel soul-shocked and gutted by the devastation. So many hearts are cracked open. So much is still tender\, raw and wounded. So much weeping remains… \nWe’re hosting this eco-grief dance in the beloved barn at Lake Eden as an invitation for you to be in your grief and with your grief\, to give movement and expression to your grief; to allow your grief to flow freely through you… \nBy Donation\, all profits donated to Beloved Asheville.\nAdd the comment Eco Grief when you pay with Venmo.

SUMMARY:Whining Welcomed Here
DESCRIPTION:Whining Welcomed Here\nSunday\, November 10th\nFacilitator: Ted Riskin \nOur culture of rugged individualism shames us for whining or feeling sorry for ourselves. But isn’t what we call “whining” just parts of us that need to be witnessed in our pain and sadness? Why should we deny that\, especially when many of us have recently suffered losses? Let’s provide that necessary compassionate witnessing on Sunday. \nYou can hear some of Ted’s mixes at https://www.mixcloud.com/tarisk/.

SUMMARY:Everything is Beautiful
DESCRIPTION:Everything is Beautiful\nFriday\, November 8th\nFacilitator: Lanie McKeever Anderson \nPlease join me for a precious moving prayer through ecstatic dance. \nEverything is beautiful and I am so sad.\nThis is how the heart makes a duet of\nwonder and grief. The light spraying\nthrough the lace of the fern is as delicate\nas the fibers of memory forming their web\naround the knot in my throat. The breeze\nmakes the birds move from branch to branch\nas this ache makes me look for those I’ve lost\nin the next room\, in the next song\, in the laugh\nof the next stranger. In the very center\, under\nit all\, what we have that no one can take\naway and all that we’ve lost face each other.\nIt is there that I’m adrift\, feeling punctured\nby a holiness that exists inside everything.\nI am so sad and everything is beautiful. \n~ poem by Mark Nepo\, “Adrift”\, from Inside the Miracle: Enduring Suffering\, Approaching Wholeness\, (Sounds True\, 2016)\n~ art by Lanie McKeever \nLanie’s mixes: www.soundcloud.com/rainbowdragonheart.

SUMMARY:Time
DESCRIPTION:Time\nSunday\, November 3rd\nFacilitator: Eduardo Arias \nTime\, the relentless river\, flows ceaselessly\, carrying us on its currents. For many of us\, the years have slipped by like grains of sand between our fingers\, leaving behind a trail of memories\, triumphs\, and lessons learned. We’ve chased dreams\, built bridges\, and weathered storms. Our lives are tapestries woven from threads of joy and sorrow\, each moment a testament to our resilience and determination. \nAs we pause to reflect\, we behold the landscape of our accomplishments: the loves we’ve nurtured\, the milestones achieved\, and the wisdom earned. Our hearts swell with pride and gratitude for the journey thus far. \nYet\, as we gaze toward the horizon\, a sentimental whisper stirs within: “What’s next?” The unknown beckons\, a blank canvas awaiting the brushstrokes of our future endeavors. Will we continue to grow\, to explore\, to love? \nIn this moment\, let us embrace time as our mirror. May it reflect our truest selves\, our deepest desires\, and our highest aspirations. May we cherish every second\, every minute\, every hour\, and every year\, for they are the threads that weave the fabric of our existence. \nLet us honor time\, this mysterious companion\, by living fully\, loving deeply\, and embracing the beauty of the unknown. For in its reflection\, we will find our own radiance\, shining brighter with each passing moment.

SUMMARY:The Phoenix
DESCRIPTION:The Phoenix\nFriday\, November 1st\nFacilitator: Jeannie Adair \nLet’s gather to honor the resilience of the human spirit—in the spirit of resilience that Maya Angelou speaks of in her powerful words: ‘You may trod me in the very dirt\, but still\, like dust\, I’ll rise.’ After the destruction of Hurricane Helene\, we stand here in Asheville\, a community that is rising from the ashes\, from the mud\, transforming pain into purpose\, and devastation into renewal. Just as the Phoenix burns and rises from its own flames\, we too are called to rise—not just as individuals but as a collective. In this dance\, we let go of what no longer serves us\, we burn away the old\, and we emerge—stronger\, wiser\, and with an open heart ready for rebirth. We rise into the daybreak\, wondrously clear\, full of life and hope.” May our purpose be clear and may we find the beauty in beginning again.

DESCRIPTION:The dance this Friday is gonna happen!… and is FREE of charge!! \nThe field at Pack Square Park | 4:55-7PM \nDimond Saints are not able to join us. \nInstead\, Morphonic and Illusion of Duality are gonna throw down\,.. aaand we have a surprise guest! \nMorphonic\nMorphonic travels across genera’s from the deep vibrations of bass music and the undulating rhythms of world beat\, to the fun and funky vintage sounds of swing\, soul\, blues\, jazz and rock remixed into upbeat electronic dance music. \nWith an emphasis on a blend of electronic beats and acoustic sounds\, Morphonic endeavors to keep a natural touch to the driving electronic vibrations. Dedicated to personal growth\, transformation\, dance and the music that brings us together in joyful self-expression\, Maurice is honored to share the sonic stylings of DJ Morphonic to all who seek to transform their body\, mind and heart through dance. \nIllusion of Duality\nWith the use of frequency embedded in a universe of rhythm Chris navigates between the Darkness & the Light to bridge the gap between electronic and organic. Beyond the good or the evil\, to a place where we are all ONE. \nThe StarTribe Vision\nAcross cultures and throughout history\, the ancient art of dance has held a profound and transformative power\, capable of uplifting the soul in ways words often cannot express. \nIt’s about coming together as a community\, bound by our shared love for music and the universal language of dance under the stars. It’s about finding strength in our collective spirit. \nAt Startribe we treasure the finding of solace in the company of kindred spirits\, sharing laughter\, love\, and the unspoken language of dance. \nIt’s unanimous that StarTribe dances are where the human spirit shines brightest. (We don’t call ourselves StarTribe for nothin’!) \nTogetherness is the spirit of StarTribe\, and you are warmly invited. \n\nEvent’s location:\nPack Square Park\n80 Court Plaza\nAsheville\, NC 28801

SUMMARY:Our Way Forward
DESCRIPTION:Our Way Forward \nFriday\, September 20th\nFacilitator: Lanie McKeever Anderson \nDuring this time of year\, feel the call to deepen into another new transition with the Earth. Sense into how this transition and call for balance asks us to expand our Hearts to hold more and more powerful\, contradictory emotions\, and to put one foot in front of another\, making our way forward through the dark. \nAs you look back at your old self from over the course of the year\, notice if once intense experiences seem to be fading away into the background—simply becoming part of the layered paint strokes on an endless canvas. Herein\, too\, may lie all the places where you have been guided\, pushed\, pulled\, and moved by Love in ways you may never have anticipated. Herein are all the places which may move you with gratitude. \nRemember that like our Earth\, our Home–your Heart and Soul seek balance.\nAnd there is no light without first resting in darkness. \nAllow this dance to move you into this Autumn season:\nMay your joy find balance amidst your sorrows.\nMay we all remember our birthrights.\nMay we all know Love. \nLanie’s Mixes on Soundcloud: soundcloud.com/rainbowdragonheart.

SUMMARY:Is There Anywhere to Get?
DESCRIPTION:Is There Anywhere to Get?\nSunday\, September 15th\nFacilitator: Ted Riskin \nTo travel is to be alive\, but to get somewhere is to be dead.\n― Alan Watts \nWestern culture is linear and hierarchical.  We should improve\, grow\, and get better.  We should accumulate more learning\, health\, and wealth.  We should reach the goal\, score the touchdown\, and accomplish the objective. We should work hard to get from Point A to Point B. \nWhat if reality is actually circular?  If you keep heading east\, you end up west\, so what have you accomplished?  What if there is nowhere to get?  What if life is just a dance? \nYou can hear some of Ted’s mixes at https://www.mixcloud.com/tarisk/.

SUMMARY:Awakenings
DESCRIPTION:Awakenings \nFriday\, September 13th\nGuest:  DJ Tigress\nSupporting Facilitator: Jeannie Adair \nEmbrace the journey of awakening with DJ Tigress as she guides you through a transformative musical experience designed to resonate with the divine energy within us all. This set celebrates our connection to the somatic mind—the awareness of our body’s sensations—encouraging us to move and feel the divine energy that animates us. As you immerse yourself in the rhythmic blend of tribal beats\, world rhythms\, and soulful melodies\, prepare to awaken your senses and connect more deeply with your inner self and the surrounding community. This isn’t just a dance floor; it’s a sacred space for rejuvenation\, discovery\, and the pure expression of joy through the universal language of music. \nBio\nDJ Tigress combines her passions as a dancer\, choreographer\, healer\, and event producer to set transformative vibes with her unique Empress House style. Drawing from tribal\, world-beat\, R&B\, hip-hop\, and house\, she crafts sets that foster a healing synergy on the dance floor infused with feminine energy. \nDespite being new to the DJ scene with just over two years of experience\, Tigress has already left her mark\, captivating audiences at events like Fireflies Forest: Infinite Elements in Tennessee and curating the Effigy burn at FamTastic this summer. Her approach is more than just music; it’s an invitation to celebrate\, heal\, and connect through dance. \n

SUMMARY:Synchronicity
DESCRIPTION:Synchronicity\nSunday\, September 8th \nPathway Facilitator: Eduardo Arias\nSupporting Facilitator: Marta Martín \nJoin me on a sonic journey into the heart of Synchronicity\, where the rhythms of our souls align with the universal beat. As we move our bodies in harmony\, we’ll tap into the intricate web of connection that binds us all. Let the music guide you into a state of inner synchrony\, where your heart\, mind\, and spirit merge in perfect union. \nAs we dance\, we’ll transcend the boundaries of individuality\, becoming a collective embodiment of the cosmic pulse. Our footsteps\, breaths\, and movements will weave a tapestry of synchronicity\, reflecting the celestial harmony that governs the universe. \nIn this sacred space\, we’ll find the rhythm that unites us all – the rhythm of the earth\, the rhythm of the heart\, and the rhythm of the cosmos. Let us surrender to the music\, allowing our true essence to shine forth in perfect synchronicity with the world around us.

SUMMARY:A Fresh Start
DESCRIPTION:A Fresh Start \nFriday\, September 6th \nGuest DJ: Megan Belling\nSupporting Facilitator: Marta Martín \nThe inspiration for this evening’s dance is simple and it’s about creating a fresh start. We’re closing out our day\, and tomorrow we can simply start again and leave ideas or habits that aren’t serving us behind. At any moment we can choose something different. What would you like to leave on the dance floor tonight and what do you hope to pour into the new space you have freed up? We are the artist always creating who we are or who we want to be with every new action or thought. It’s never too late to change\, add\, or subtract to this sculpture that is you. \nMegan fell in love with Ecstatic Dance as a movement and spiritual practice on the Big Island of Hawaii. After participating as a dancer for 9 years\, she began DJing during 2020 live-streaming sets for people to feel connected to community at home. Her practice deepened when she moved to Austin\, TX – eventually expanding into mentoring new DJs for Austin Ecstatic Rhythms and organizing the Sunday Second Wave. Her style is a modernized version of the 5 Rhythms\, with a tribal edge. The intention for every set she creates is to provide a container for transformation while also not forgetting to play and have fun! \n
