SUMMARY:Quintessential Heart
DESCRIPTION:Quintessential Heart\nFriday\, January 26th\n\nFacilitator: Cat Hay w/ guest vocalist Lillie Lumina\n\nInvitation: “Dance\, dance here again with me my love\, do you not remember when the music easily made us swing and sway? Lighting our spirits and seducing us away from toils and sorrows forget this darkness and the heavy sounds of the machine. The rattling\, buzzing clamour of its electricity; displaced and dislocated mind\, dismembered soul return from sea. Come still your senses that have run away with hype and fallacy. Come back this moment\, please\, if you could only see just for a moment summon your whole spirit to be free. Let your mind go and dance with mystic\, childlike reverie. Allow your quintessential heart to feel this rhythmic melody and show me in your eyes that you are here… with me.” – Katie Kamara\nArt by @vibrantlifeart \n\nDance is at Warren Wilson College – Bryson Gym\n102 Upper College Rd\, Swannanoa\, NC 28778

SUMMARY:Welcome the Dragon
DESCRIPTION:Welcome The Dragon\nSunday\, January 21st\nFacilitator: Jeannie Adair\n\n\nAs we step into 2024\, we welcome the Chinese Zodiac Year of The Dragon. Guided by the wisdom of the Dragon archetype\, let’s delve into the depths of our collective psyche and embrace the transformative power of this mythical creature.\n \n\nAcross cultures and throughout history\, the Dragon has been revered as a symbol of strength\, wisdom\, and untamed power. From the fiery dragons of Western folklore to the celestial dragons of the East\, this archetype carries profound significance. In the realm of psychology\, Carl Jung recognized the Dragon as a powerful symbol of the unconscious. It represents the forces that lie dormant within us\, waiting to be awakened. Dancing with the \n\nLet’s evoke the Dragon within ourselves and within our community. Through movement\, we will tap into the primal energy\, courage\, and creativity that the Dragon embodies. This dance offers a unique opportunity to confront our inner challenges\, awaken our inner fire\, and channel it toward positive change.

SUMMARY:Opinions
DESCRIPTION:Opinions\nFriday\, January 12th\n\nGuest DJ: Eduardo Arias\nSupporting Facilitator: Marta Martin\n  \nPoem: The Anatomy Of an Opinion\nIn the realm of thoughts\, where opinions hold sway\, Echoes of certainty\, in minds’ alleyways\, We build walls of belief\, so staunch and so stern\, Forgetting the lessons the world yearns to learn. \nOpinions\, like lenses\, tint our view\, Coloring the world in a singular hue\, We see not the rainbow\, but shades of our mind\, In the spectrum of thought\, we’re willingly blind. \nThe river of wisdom flows wide and deep\, But in shallow pools of ego\, we often sleep\, Confined by our views\, like fish in a jar\, Unaware of the ocean\, both near and far. \nThese strongholds of mind\, so rigid\, so tight\, Turn the day of understanding into night\, Where the stars of other perspectives are hidden\, In the dark sky of the ‘right’\, unbidden. \nLike birds in a cage\, our thoughts flutter and beat\, Against bars of conviction\, in relentless defeat\, The sky of possibility\, vast and unknown\, Remains unexplored\, unclaimed\, and alone. \nSo let us break free from these chains of ‘I know’\, To the fields of ‘perhaps’\, where new ideas grow\, For in the garden of open minds\, under the sun of doubt\, Blooms the flower of wisdom\, beautiful\, throughout.

DESCRIPTION:The Present Is Not a Result of the Past\nSunday\, January 7th\nFacilitator: Ted Riskin \nJust as a movie creates the illusion of continuity by displaying 24 discrete frames per second\, our experience of continuity from one present moment to the next is an illusion and optional.  As we start a new year\, we can have a new start to our lives.\n\nYou can hear some of Ted’s mixes at www.mixcloud.com/tarisk.

SUMMARY:Full Circle
DESCRIPTION:Full Circle\nFriday\, January 5th\n\nFacilitator: Rory Jagdeo\n\nLife is a dance and we are all dancing all the time. Indeed\, we are born of movement. From early on in our lives\, movement expresses what we discover in the world. Dance is an incredibly powerful tool for introspection and deep self-exploration. When you dance\, you have the opportunity to experience the past\, the present\, and the future…sometimes all at once. Dance helps you track where you’ve been\, where you’re going\, and who you are becoming — to experience your life as a FULL CIRCLE! \nWhat have YOU experienced in the last year?? What have you let go of and what have you gained?? \nLet’s use this dance as an opportunity for deep reflection. Let’s use the music and the dance as a catalyst to free ourselves even more of things that no longer serve us for the journey ahead. This is a chance to celebrate and mourn and honor everything our bodies and our minds have experienced this past year. \nA chance to come FULL CIRCLE.

SUMMARY:In the End
DESCRIPTION:In the End\nSunday\, December 31st\nFacilitator: Cat Hay \n“Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay\, it’s not the end.” – John Lennon \nMy invitation is to take this dance\, this moment\, to gaze into the horizons of the new year\, to reflect on the lessons of this last one\, to find the folly in time’s illusions\, and to drop deeper in that which transcends all time…for what is a beginning\, if not an ending? What is an ending\, if not a beginning? \nMay we dance in celebration of that place where beginning and endings know no separation\, where it is all one in the same…I think this is what John Lennon really meant when he said everything will be okay in the end. SUMMARY:Reflection on the Winter Solstice
DESCRIPTION:Reflection on the Winter Solstice\nSunday\, December 17th\nFacilitators: Robert Kochka & Amanda Crowe \n\n\n\nThis is a lovely moment – the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere..\nThe darkest day of the darkest week of the year . . .\n. . . a pause in the descent into darkness.\n. . . a pause before light overtakes the dark.\n. . . a pause before decrease changes to increase.\nIf you pay close attention\, you can feel it – the moment of pause before the shift occurs.\nThis longest night beckons us to pause\, too.\nWhat does any great athlete do…\n… before they dive into the water?\n… before they throw the discus?\n… before they grab the rings?\nThey pause.\nWhat are they thinking about?\nNothing — absolutely nothing.\nThis is what the solstice reminds us.\nJust stop and be. Do nothing.\nGo a little more slowly. Be a little gentler.\nSoon the darkness will recede and light will begin to increase. It will be time to think about setting goals and moving forward into the new year. To take action.\nBut now\, take a moment to pause before you plan.\nThis is the special moment of between – the moment that separates what was from what can be.\nby Jesse Lyn Stoner

SUMMARY:The Nativity of Caves
DESCRIPTION:The Nativity of Caves\nSunday\, December 10th\nFacilitator: Conway Weary \n\n\n\nOur bodies remember our ancestors’ deep relationship with caves. A place of refuge\, a canvas for storytelling\, a site for ceremony\, an invitation into mystery and the unknown depths…. long have caves been metaphors for birth\, death\, and the important inward journey into the dark places. \nHere as the Winter night closes in\, and the season of Nativity nears\, caves offer themselves. Perhaps their unfathomable mysteries will call us into a personal movement exploration of the deep interior of ourselves. \nDemeter \nIn your dream you met Demeter\nSplendid and severe\, who said: Endure.\nStudy the art of seeds\,\nThe nativity of caves.\nDance your gay body to the poise of waves;\nDie out of the world to bring forth the obscure\nInto blisses\, into needs.\nIn all resources\nBelong to love. Bless\,\nJoin\, fashion the deep forces\,\nAsserting your nature\, priceless and true.\nPeace\, child. Find your true kin.\n–    then you felt her kiss. \n— Genevieve Taggard

SUMMARY:Milk & Honey
DESCRIPTION:Milk & Honey\nSunday\, December 3rd\nFacilitator: Jeannie Adair \n\n\n\nMilk & Honey is an ancient term meaning a land overflowing with abundance. MILK\, meaning that which sustains us\, and HONEY\, the ‘extra’ sweetness that we need to thrive. \nWhat is luxury? \nIn Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way\, she defines luxury of spirit as being necessary to thrive in a creative life\, and the self-care of TIME and SPACE as requirements to experience true abundance. \nTime for deep rest and quiet. Time with friends and loved ones\, for laughter\, and to create new experiences of joy. Time to cry\, to grieve\, to feel your feelings. \nIn addition to time\, we also need space. Creating sacred space can be as simple as a candle in the windowsill or arranging a shelf that holds objects that are precious to you\, or decluttering and rearranging your furniture to clear the energy of your room.  These open us up to universal flow where we can more easily tap into our creativity in all aspects of our lives. These open us to more easily connect with our spirit. \nWhen we allow the self-care of time and space to sustain us\, we nourish ourselves with life’s MILK. Then each step we take is a dance of abundance\, every breath we draw is a delicious taste of life’s HONEY. \nThis dance invites you to revel in the luxury of spirit together through moments of connection\, creative expression\, and love dancing in our hearts.

DESCRIPTION:Resilience\nFriday\, December 1st\nFacilitator: Rory Jagdeo\n\n\nAs the times around us are becoming more challenging it is more than ever important that we remember to tap into our own resources\, and express our commitment to be a resource to the world. \nTouching the basic goodness within ourselves\, feeling the goodness in others and in the community\, all help to enhance our RESILIENCE. \nStep a little closer\, feel the shoulders of the ones next to you. It’s time to recognize your strength within and recall all the inner and outer support you have. \nLet’s find our heartbeat\, dive into the dance unknown\, use the strength of our similarities and differences\, feel the power of our togetherness\, make some noise\, and power up our RESILIENCE!

SUMMARY:What's Wrong? What's Right?
DESCRIPTION:What’s Wrong? What’s Right?\nSunday\, November 26th\nFacilitator: Ted Riskin \n\nWhich draws your attention more?  The pretty painting?  The cute doggy?  Or the hole in its head?\n\nThat hole covers only about 3% of the area of the painting\, but we are compelled to focus there.  Our brains evolved to fixate on what is wrong\, because it helped us survive.  But that tendency thwarts our ability to feel contentment.\n\nGiving thanks is a simple way to rebalance our focus and feel more happy.

SUMMARY:Honesty
DESCRIPTION:Honesty\nFriday\, November 10th\nGuest DJ: Hunter the Gatherer\nSupporting Facilitator: Cat Hay\n\n\nOn the dance floor I get to be confronted with all the different parts of me. The ones that want connection\, want to belong\, want to be alone\, etc. For this dance\, I want to invite the concept of honesty and maybe a more radical version than what already exists. What does full honesty look like? How does it feel? How does it move? Can you bring your honesty to the practice and dance with it? \n \nBio: Hunter the Gatherer is dedicated to the search for eclectic global sounds\, compiling them together\, and creating a journey of prayer for the dancer. As a dancer and being versed in 5 Rhythms I intentionally curate journeys from that perspective. A way for the body to express all the different parts and for the emotions to be felt and alchemized. I bring my love of different sounds and my range of different electronic textures and genres to create a colorful landscape to journey through. Any time I play for others it is a deep honor and I use it as an offering to our temples so that we can express our prayers and move stuck energy that no longer serves us. I play for those who came before and will come after me. Creating my dream by playing music for others. 🙂\n\nLink to mixes: https://soundcloud.com/hunter-ball

SUMMARY:Trust Fall
DESCRIPTION:Trust Fall\nSunday\, November 12th \nGuest DJ: Sara Bensman\nSupporting Facilitator: Marta Martin \nRemember that moment when you were caught off guard? Maybe it was a loss or maybe you received unexpected news. Suddenly the ground fell away beneath your feet. You hung suspended in midair for a long moment\, untethered to your known world. The wind moved through and blew away everything that was extraneous. You were unsure of what would happen next. Eventually you landed. Your body dropped to the ground again like the kernel falling into the winnowing basket. And you reoriented yourself to this new reality. \nLet’s expand that moment to a dance. Let’s witness how we navigate the uncertainty and explore the sensation of releasing our expectations. Let’s discover what we trust when we fall. \n
