SUMMARY:Beloved Beat
DESCRIPTION:Beloved Beat\nSunday\, June 15th\nFacilitator: Sara Bensman \nThis dance invites you to release yourself to the beat\, to let go of the mind and allow your body to be captivated by the rhythm. It’s a chance to try on the tempo of the heartbeat\, the breath\, the sun\, the moon\, the seasons\, and the arc of a life to more deeply sync with your own native beat.

SUMMARY:Fringe Effect
DESCRIPTION:Fringe Effect\nFriday\, June 6th\nGuest DJ: Mikaya\nSupporting Facilitator: Sara Bensman \nLet’s play on the fringes of the norm\, to tap into our creativity and make a mess of it. This dance mix will be layered with experimental\, industrial and organic sounds curiously interwoven with hypnotic and discordant beats. The goal will be to create a wave progression out of sync with the familiar standard\, yet somehow still beholden to it.

SUMMARY:Volition
DESCRIPTION:Volition\nSunday\, May 18th\nFacilitator: Marta Martin \nImage by: Joel Filipe \n\nVolition is the capacity of individuals to make conscious choices and decisions. Volition in our dance practice means bringing conscious intention to a space that often celebrates spontaneity. It’s the art of choosing how\, why\, and when to move—not just letting your body react\, but letting your will guide your expression. \n\nChoosing Presence\nVolition is: “I will be present.” \n\nMoving with Intention\nWe might set an internal intention: to explore fluidity\, express grief\, reclaim power\, or simply listen\nVolition is: “I move to express\, not escape.” \n\nDirecting Energy\nChoosing where our energy goes—upward\, outward\, inward\, grounded.\nVolition is: “I choose where my energy flows.” \n\nHonoring Boundaries\nVolition is: “I have agency in stillness and motion.” \n\nTransforming Emotion Through Choice\nYou feel rage or joy rising—but how you embody it is yours to craft.\nVolition is: “I choose how emotion becomes movement.” \n\nIn free form dance\, volition doesn’t kill spontaneity—it gives it depth. It’s the silent architecture behind authentic\, empowered movement. \nVolition is the line between living passively and living deliberately.

SUMMARY:In Full Bloom
DESCRIPTION:In Full Bloom\nFriday\, May 16th\nGuest DJ: Stacey Butcher\nSupporting Facilitator: Marta Martin \nThis is your invitation to dance yourself wide open. \nIn Full Bloom is a movement journey into the heart of your becoming—an exploration of what it means to fully inhabit your body\, express your truth\, and rise into your fullest potential. Like wildflowers breaking through the soil\, you are meant to grow in all directions. \nThrough breath\, beat\, and embodied presence\, we’ll shed old skins\, stir dormant energies\, and root deeply into the ground of our being. From that rootedness\, we rise—expanding into color\, power\, and full-bodied expression. \nCome as you are. Sweat\, shed\, celebrate. \nThere is no choreography\, no performance—only your dance\, your truth\, in its most alive form. Together\, we’ll create a field of movement where every body is welcome\, and every bloom belongs. \nLet yourself be In Full Bloom.

SUMMARY:Chaos Magician
DESCRIPTION:Chaos Magician\nSunday\, May 4th\nFacilitator: Eduardo Arias \nHe wasn’t just my best friend. He was my brother. Not by blood—but by something deeper. Soul recognition. Like we were carved from the same piece of sky. \nWe met on a bright June day back in 2016\, at a little breakfast spot in Asheville. Funny how something so ordinary ends up being the start of everything. We clicked instantly. Motorcycles\, weird old philosophy books\, emotional chaos\, the works. Gurdjieff\, Jung\, Osho—we weren’t into small talk\, we were into soul talk. \nOver the years\, we discovered just how similar we were. The same hopes. The same fears. The same wiring\, but also the same wild-hearted love for this strange\, beautiful life. He was the first person I ever told my darkest secrets to—the kind of stories you lock up deep. And he didn’t flinch. Just held space like a goddamn lighthouse. \nWe traveled together\, we drank and laughed and read each other poems while listening to Bon Iver and Nine Inch Nails and Miles Davis. We howled at the moon like two overgrown boys trying to out-feel the universe. He showed me his shadow\, and I showed him mine. But more than that—we showed each other the light. That deep\, radiant kind of light that only comes when someone truly sees you. \nAnd man\, could he push the limits of reality. \nOnce\, in Brooklyn\, we went to see this ambient piano genius. The line outside the venue was insane\, and we had crappy tickets. But he walks right up to a group of six total strangers and somehow convinces them to let us cut the line. Just like that. Then we sit in someone else’s seats—front and center—and when the actual ticket holders show up\, he hands them our tickets and says\, completely calm\, “Just go talk to the ushers—they’ll fix it.” And they did. They just walked away like he cast a spell on them. \nLater that night\, he sang a Radiohead song at a Korean karaoke bar. “Fake Plastic Trees.” And by the time he finished\, there were ten women in the room\, no joke\, who had drifted in like moths. He didn’t even flirt. Just talked and laughed like the world was brand new and made just for him. Like he was playing the simulation and the rest of us were catching up. \nHe could push the edge without ever being caught. Bend time\, bend people\, bend the whole damn vibe—and do it with a smirk and a shoulder shrug. \nHe left this world on March 25th. \nAnd there’s a part of me that still refuses to believe it. Still hears his voice when I walk alone. Still sees his face when I’m laughing too hard at nothing. Still feels him in the space between breaths. \nIf love could’ve saved him\, he’d still be here. But he gave me enough love to last this lifetime. \nRest easy\, brother. \nYou’re still here—in every story\, every dream\, every moment I remember to feel.

SUMMARY:Beyond the Veil
DESCRIPTION:Beyond the Veil\nFriday\, April 18th\nFacilitator: Rory Jagdeo \n“Across our path a sunbeam gently lies;We know not whence it came; we think we know;But\, as we watch its glories come and go\,It fades away! Whither? Into the skies? We seek to follow it\, with blinking eyes\,Beyond the Veil—of which we nothing know! But e’en imagination is too slowTo chase a sunbeam as it heavenward flies. The fairest and the dearest objects fade\,Just as a sunbeam comes and glides away;But\, e’en while lingering in the gloom and shade\,Struggling through sorrow’s night into the day\,We feel “’tis better to have loved and lostThan never to have loved”—whate’er the cost.”\n~ Timothy Thomas Fortune

SUMMARY:Fault Line
DESCRIPTION:Fault Line\nSunday\, April 13th\nFacilitator: Sara Bensman \nA fault line arises from underlying pressures beneath the surface. By the time it cracks open\, it’s usually been building for a long time. Even if we recognize that it will likely lead to a release of pent-up energy and new possibilities\, it tends to feel frightening and ominous. When faced with unstable ground beneath our feet\, what are the internal resources we need to cultivate to withstand the chaos that inevitably arises?

SUMMARY:Walk in Beauty
DESCRIPTION:Walk in Beauty\nSunday\, April 6th\nFacilitator: Ted Riskin \nThe Navajo concept of walking in beauty encapsulates a philosophy of living in harmony\, balance\, and reverence for the natural order. It is a way of life that integrates spiritual\, physical\, and emotional well-being\, emphasizing the interconnectedness of all things. This philosophy encourages individuals to strive for balance in their relationships with themselves\, others\, and the natural world\, often through ceremonies and practices that restore harmony when it is lost. Walking in beauty is a continuous journey of aligning oneself with the rhythms of existence\, fostering peace\, and embodying the beauty of creation in every step. \n(Walk in Beauty is also a salon where you don’t need an appointment.)
