SUMMARY:Curiosity
DESCRIPTION:Curiosity\nPhoto by Mikhail Vasilyev\nFacilitator: Marta Martín \nCuriosity is the desire to learn or know about anything . Curiosity and motivation seem to be essential to our being productive\, healthy\, and happy. It also has proven to increase dopamine production in our bodies.   Can we imagine walking the world with curiosity? What if we did not take things for granted or at face value? \nDancing with curiosity can help us notice new ways of moving\, new directions to explore\, different ways to view ourselves and others. Being curious together can help us create a world of magic and purpose.

SUMMARY:Power
DESCRIPTION:Power\nFriday\, September 1st \nGuest Facilitator: Sara Bensman\nSupporting Facilitator: Marta Martín \n\nWe all recognize power when we encounter it. We know that power affects us all. People with power influence\, even control\, our world. \nBut what is power? What is the power that changes us internally? That gives us personal freedom? That serves the common good? That transforms those it touches? Where does power begin? How do we cultivate it within ourselves? And how do we use our power to support others in strengthening their own power\, rather than inhibit them?

SUMMARY:Opening to What Is
DESCRIPTION:Opening to What Is\nFriday\, August 25th \nGuest Facilitator: Stacey Butcher\nSupporting Facilitator: Marta Martín \n\nThe invitation for our time together is to say “yes” to what is in this moment…and this moment…and this moment. Turning our hearts toward and moving with whatever arises rather than pushing it away or trying to change it.  Let’s take this opportunity on the dance floor to breathe it\, move it and give it life.\nAs Gabrielle Roth said\, “Put the psyche in motion\, and it will heal itself.”

SUMMARY:The Elements Connection
DESCRIPTION:The Elements Connection\nPhoto by Frank McKeennna\n\nFacilitator: Marta Martín \nMany movement practices connect with and honor the 5 elements of Earth\, Fire\, Water\, Air\, and Ether.\nEach element has unique aspects and invitations to moving our bodies. \nThe invitation for this dance:\n·      Begin with the element of EARTH. Connecting to the deepest of the earth core while moving our feet across the room and using rounded movements.\n·      Feel our inner FIRE. Moving hips\, shoulders\, knees in sharp\, linear motions.\n·      Allow the power of WATER to cleanse and change us.\n·      We may open our wings and take flight to let the element of air lift us in celebration.\n·      Finally\,  we will connect with our own spirit and the element of ETHER as we return to stillness.

SUMMARY:Indulgence
DESCRIPTION:Indulgence\nFacilitator: Marta Martín \nThis is the time of year to delight in the brilliance of being human and indulge in the beauty of moving freely on this beautiful planet of ours.  It is the time to engage in a dance with all our 6 senses without judgement. Let’s notice how easy or difficult it is to drop everything and connect with our joy. Let’s celebrate being elated even if it’s only for a few moments.

SUMMARY:The Boundless Heart
DESCRIPTION:The Boundless Heart\nGuest DJ: Jeannie Adair\nSupporting Facilitator: Marta Martín \n\nI’ve been reflecting on the nature of the heart as I prepare this mix. While discernment and boundaries are necessary to protect ourselves from harm\, I am filled with gratitude for one of the greatest gifts we have been given: the boundlessness of the heart and its limitless capacity to expand! Beyond the confines of our physicality and our emotions\, the heart extends far into the unseen realms\, and is part of the oneness of all things. \nOur animal bodies have  the remarkable ability to hold a vast range of emotions from profound joy\, deep sorrow\, fierce passion and gentle tenderness. Through the heart we can navigate the complexities of our inner landscape with grace and resilience\, and create profound shifts within ourselves and in the world around us. \nBeyond emotions\, the heart is a source of unconditional love that transcends boundaries\, cultures\, and differences. It has the capacity to radiate warmth and acceptance to all beings\, fostering connection\, understanding\, and unity. \nThe heart’s boundlessness is connection to the divine\, the portal through which we access our intuition\, higher wisdom\, and universal consciousness\, tapping into the collective energy of love and the oneness that permeates all existence. \nLet’s celebrate the boundless nature of the heart! In connecting with the rhythm of our beating hearts\, the music\, and our creative expression\, perhaps we will experience a sense of liberation\, of freedom\, and connection to ourselves\, to each other\, and to the infinite of our collective heart.

SUMMARY:Medicine
DESCRIPTION:Medicine\nGuest DJ: Lanie McKeever Anderson\nSupporting Facilitator: Marta Martín \n\nHow far you have come on this day –\nTo acknowledge the things you have locked away: \nGrief. Rage. Sorrow. Belonging. Power. \nHow far you have come on this day –\nTo step into this circle\,\nAnd witness the things we all have carried or thrown away. \nHow far we have come on this day –\nTo bring what lies within you and within me\nAnd to give it life with our bodies\,\nOur blessed breath. \nHow far we have come on this day –\nTo call down this big medicine\nAs we shoulder our joys and sorrows\, \nTogether. \nLanie McKeever is a visionary empath\, mystic artist\, fledgling music weaver\, and lover of enchantment\, currently residing in Asheville\, NC. Sorrow. Belonging. SUMMARY:Uncertainty
DESCRIPTION:Invitation: Uncertainty \nBeing alive brings uncertainty. We often try hard to hold on to  “security” which can bring chaos into our lives. What if we were to slow down and take a breath before the next step? Let’s move through the dance floor with intention\, at a pace that is just right for each individual.

SUMMARY:Our Divine Feminine
DESCRIPTION:Invitation: Our Divine Feminine \nFacilitator: Marta Martín \nNo matter what pronouns we use to describe ourselves\, the divine feminine is an integral part of who we are. As we embrace the divine feminine\, we seek the balance that works for each of us. Can we soften the sharp bits and support the fragile parts that keep us from embracing all we are? As we move together\, can we celebrate the energy of the fertile and nurturing earth\, the moon energy\, the sensual feeling beneath our feet and the divinity in ourselves and others and seek the balance we crave? \nThe music for this wave seeks to honor female artists and musicians from all over the planet.

SUMMARY:(Un)masked
DESCRIPTION:Invitation: (Un)masked \nFebruary is the season for Carnivale. Originating in 11th century Venice\, where for over 2 weeks\, people from all social classes wore masks and celebrated together. The mask became part of everyday attire for some to help break cultural norms.  A mask can bring out our darker natures\, and a more amplified\, authentic\, and less restrained version of our personalities. \nThe modern meaning of the word mask derives from Medieval Latin masca which means witch or specter\, and influenced by the Arabic maskara\, or buffoon. Used in rituals and ceremonies\, the oldest found dates from 7000 BC. \nThe mask is deeply imprinted in our psyche. The spiritual power in masks transport us into realms unseen and gives voice to things unspoken. Within the context of ritual\, putting on a mask places the wearer at the intersection between the present and the past\, the living and the dead\, the seen and the unseen.  Donning a mask can allow us to adopt the spirit of it\, and to connect with creatures\, our ancestors\, and the Divine. \nWhat about our own internal masks? Our personality masks?\nWe take steps to cover up who we really are around other people in social\, work\, or personal interactions\, mostly to protect ourselves from dominant culture\, or as a result from trauma. We can mask our personality with words\, facial expressions\, body language\, actions\, and even dance. Starting when we are very young\, many of us were taught to mask  to conceal negative emotions (usually sadness\, frustration\, and anger) with a positive emotion or indifferent affect.  If we wear a mask too long we can forget we are wearing it\, and it can cause depression and be depleting to our true nature. \nWhat masks do you wear? Are you the martyr\, the bully\, the comedian\, the overachiever\, the people-pleaser\, the social butterfly\, the conformist\, or the rebel?- \nThe invitation is to dance with your masks\, sifting though your social\, work\, and relationships masks.\nHow do they want to move?\nWhere do they live in your body?\nWhat does it feel like to put them on and take them off consciously\, in dance?

SUMMARY:Renewal
DESCRIPTION:Invitation: Renewal \nWe have reached the mid winter mark. Some celebrate Imbolc\, Candlemass\, and Groundhog Day.  We all celebrate the returning of the light. The earth’s fire and Sunlight awakens nature and invites renewal.  Are we ready to shed the dry leaves and bark that protected us from our personal winter? Can we push through the frozen ground of our self imposed barriers? Can we sprout green leaves of self love and blooms of tenderness for ourselves and others? Can we dance to renewal?

SUMMARY:Dance for Your Life
DESCRIPTION:Invitation: Dance for Your Life \nThis poem says it all:\nThey Danced for the Love They Felt\nby Shiloh Sophia McCloud\n(re-written by Stacey with “they” instead of “her” to be more inclusive) \nThey danced for the love they felt\, the love they gave away\, and the love they kept\nThey danced to free their spirit and to free other spirits too\nThey danced in response to joy and to process pain. \nThey moved their body like their life depended on it\,\nAll the while praying for love to come\, for sadness to go. \nThey danced for all the people who can’t dance for themselves. \nThey also taught others to dance for justice\, for truth\, for possibility…for healing the broken–hearted. \nThey danced with the little children and the wise old ones. \nThey danced to break the ties that bind our people\,\nTo bring awareness and healing\,\nTo invite friendship and art into the open spaces that the dance created. \nThey danced to break open the hearts of our people\,\nTo bring truth and compassion\,\nTo encourage kindness and vision towards the healed places that the dance created. \nThey danced to keep the flame of true love burning. \nThey danced for all the wishes\, all the dreams and all the blessings. \nThey danced the first dance and the last dance. \nThey danced when they were too tired to walk. \nThey danced for the living and for the dead\,\nIn birth and in mourning\,\nFor peace\, beauty and creative expression. \nThey danced their prayers all the way to God\,\nWhich wasn’t so very far after all.
