SUMMARY:Rise Up!
DESCRIPTION:Rise Up!\nFriday\, September 18th\, 2026\nFacilitator: Sara Bensman \nIndividuals and communities throughout the world find themselves on the vulnerable end of a conflict yet find the determination to rise up through civil action\, protest\, song\, art\, kindness\, and mutual support. What creates the strength of will to move beyond the freeze response in order to create change? This dance honors the people of the world who transcend the fear and uncertainty and take action toward a more just and kinder planet. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Like the First Time
DESCRIPTION:Like the First Time\nSunday\, August 16th\, 2026\nFacilitator: Sara Bensman \nImagine yourself experiencing music for the very first time. Your body naturally reacts to the rhythms\, spontaneously engaged with beat and melody. Before the concepts of dance\, grace\, or acceptable moves exist in your mind\, before the imprints of cultural norms take root in your cells\, your body simply played in the field of music. \nThis is an invitation to release all you think and feel and know about dancing and come explore the floor with the innocence of a toddler. Allow yourself to take a break from patterns of movement you’ve cultivated throughout your life\, to experiment with new ways of responding to music and community and to re-set your nervous system with your organic expressions.

SUMMARY:Shifting
DESCRIPTION:Shifting\nSunday\, July 19th\, 2026\nFacilitator: Sara Bensman \nLet’s dance the internal shifts within ourselves. Let’s dance the shifts in consciousness that speak to the wild possibilities of our imagination. Let’s dance the collective changes we are experiencing now\, in this moment in time\, and those we dream for Our Future. \n“You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop.” ― Rumi \n“Cultural shifts happen on a different level; they come into view only when we step back enough to see a bigger picture changing over time. A newspaper photograph viewed through a magnifying glass may appear only as tiny dots. When it seems as if our lives and choices are like those dots\, it can be difficult to recognize their contribution to a bigger picture of change.” ― Joanna Macy \n“A dream is not reality\, but who’s to say which is which?” ― Alice Through the Looking Glass\, Lewis Carroll

SUMMARY:Shapeshifters
DESCRIPTION:Shapeshifters\nFriday\, May 22nd\, 2026\nFacilitator: Sara Bensman \nI Am a Prayer\nby Joy Harjo \nI am a prayer\nI am a prayer of rain in the desert when the flowering ones need a drink\nI am a prayer\nI am a prayer of sun when there is no end to night\nI am a prayer\nI am a prayer of ocean when there is no more blue\nI am a prayer\nI am a prayer of clouds when few make rain songs\nI am a prayer\nI am a prayer of roads that lead everywhere but home\nI am a prayer\nI am a prayer of white birds who cannot fly through a storm of fear\nI am a prayer\nI am a prayer of fire who arrived to care for humans\, then was misused to destroy\nI am a prayer\nI am a prayer of wind\, whose breathing carries seeds\, pollen\, and songs to feed the generations\nI am a prayer\nI am a prayer of moon who wears the night as a shawl to hide that which should never be spoken\nI am a prayer\nI am a prayer of grief\, when life gambled with death and gave up families for guns\nI am a prayer\nI am a prayer of smoke\, wandering the broken houses\, the littered ground looking for a white flag of reason\nI am a prayer\nI am a prayer of mountains\, those tall humble ones who agreed to lift our eyes to see\nI am a prayer\nI am a prayer of forever making a path of beauty through the rubble of eternity\nI am a prayer\nI am a prayer of poetry speaking the soundlessness of the dead who return to speak in prayer\nI am a prayer with children on my back roaming the earth house of destruction and creation\nI am a prayer without end \nGnosis\, the knowing that comes from experience\, from fully understanding something from the inside out\, transforms our soul\, and opens us to empathy\, connection and a sense of oneness. To know something physical\, such as a river or a coat\, we must try it on\, envelope ourselves in its texture\, form\, scent and movement. Our ancestors became the lion\, the eagle or the willow tree through the transformational magic of trance in order to know how a lion hunts\, an eagle sees\, or a willow bends\, but also simply to know those beings. This shapeshifting dance is an invitation to explore the essences of others in order find ourselves within our “family of things.”

SUMMARY:Music is the Message
DESCRIPTION:Music is the Message\nSunday\, April 12th\, 2026\nFacilitator: Sara Bensman \nMusic is the Message… \nMusic awakens us\, tells our stories\, dances our angry or bitter or broken hearts until they are tender again. \nMusic connects our left and our right brains\, our town with your city\, our tribe. \nMusic is the universal language. The closest distance between two hearts. The introduction and the epilogue. \nMusic has been there when we have fallen down and is there to remember us up. \n… and the Message is Music \n  \n

SUMMARY:Behind the Wheel
DESCRIPTION:Behind the Wheel\nFriday\, March 13th\, 2026\nFacilitator: Sara Bensman \nRemember the freedom of the open road. The sense that all possibilities open to us once we decide to take charge of the wheel. Come dance the highways\, gravel roads\, single tracks\, and neural pathways. Dance your way through the tunnels and rainstorms\, over expansive bridges and round and round the circular tracks. Find escape maneuvers from dead ends and traffic jams. Feel the power of the engine when you press down the pedal\, lean in to the slow arcs of the curves\, savor the confusion of getting lost and the satisfaction in knowing your way. Enjoy the quiet solitude of the open road\, the companionability of friends\, or the reassurance of Dog beside you. Choose your destination and your path.

SUMMARY:Let Go\, Come Closer
DESCRIPTION:Let Go\, Come Closer\nSunday\, December 14th\, 2025\nFacilitator: Sara Bensman \nThe origins of the seasons is understood through the tale of Persephone\, who spends her winters in the underworld with the dark god of that world\, Hades. In most tellings\, she is taken by him against her will\, but perhaps she chooses to be with this dark lover. \nPersephone’s mother\, Demeter\, the goddess of seeds\, growth and fertility\, decimated by the loss of her beloved daughter to the world of death\, arranges a solution in which Persephone is returned to her. But then\, in a surprising twist\, Persephone eats the pomegranate seeds from the underworld and this act commits her to returning to Hades every winter. And thus begins the seasons. \nThis back and forth she does each year between the verdant world of creation and the dark world of death is what makes Persephone both complex and familiar. Don’t we all have to find the balance within us to survive the vicissitude of life? We are constantly in the throws of calling what we love closer and letting go of what no longer feeds us. This mix is an honoring of that tension between moving towards and releasing\, making room in our internal closet for the springtime by honoring the letting go of the winter. \nPhotograph by Laura Pashby

SUMMARY:The Days of the Dead
DESCRIPTION:The Days of the Dead\nSunday\, November 2nd\nFacilitator: Sara Bensman \nAs the days grow colder\, the shadows grow longer and the dark nights lengthen\, our attention tends to move toward our internal space. Throughout history and across the globe\, people have responded to the turning inward by reacquainting themselves with death. Dia de los Muertos\, Samhain\, Allhallowtide\, and Halloween\, each express this impulse with its own distinct flavor. This Sunday\, we will dance our unique AMCollective fusion of the season’s death days and invite our loved ones that have crossed over to join us on the dance floor. Please feel free to bring photos or objects for our shared alter to honor and welcome your dead friends and family. \nAbout Sara Bensman: Sara’s mix-making arises from musical exploration. She seeks to understand energy through somatic responses to sonic vibrations. Her facilitation is propelled by a desire to help build and sustain community by creating a safe\, loving container for self-expression\, connection and release. SUMMARY:The Days of the Dead
DESCRIPTION:The Days of the Dead\nSunday\, Novemeber 2nd\nFacilitator: Sarah Bensman \nAs the days grow colder\, the shadows grow longer and the dark nights lengthen\, our attention tends to move toward our internal space. SUMMARY:Trance Form
DESCRIPTION:Trance Form\nFriday\, October 10th\nFacilitator: Sara Bensman \nAs long as humans have existed\, we have sought trance states in order to scratch that incessant desire to alter our experiences\, lose ourselves in the body\, and shake off our day to day debris. We chant\, run\, spin\, rock\, sing and dance in order to release the gripping and loosen the mind. This dance expresses that urge in humans throughout the world and throughout time.

SUMMARY:Fault Line
DESCRIPTION:Fault Line\nSunday\, April 13th\nFacilitator: Sara Bensman \nA fault line arises from underlying pressures beneath the surface. By the time it cracks open\, it’s usually been building for a long time. Even if we recognize that it will likely lead to a release of pent-up energy and new possibilities\, it tends to feel frightening and ominous. When faced with unstable ground beneath our feet\, what are the internal resources we need to cultivate to withstand the chaos that inevitably arises?

SUMMARY:Harmony
DESCRIPTION:Harmony\nSunday\, March 9th\nFacilitator: Sara Bensman \nAMC’s vision is a world that moves in harmony where all are free to be their authentic selves within a loving community. \nBut what is harmony?  We recognize it when we hear it or feel it\, but it is nearly impossible to define. It involves an acceptance of differences.  It’s likened to ease and peace.  And it comes close to synergy. \nThis is an invitation to immerse yourself in sound and movement in order to deepen your somatic understanding of harmony and disharmony within yourself\, with others and within a collective.

SUMMARY:Speck of a Star
DESCRIPTION:Speck of a Star\nFriday\, January 17th\nFacilitator: Sara Bensman  \nWithin each of us is a particular genius\, our unique offering to the universe\, or what the ancient people referred to as a speck of a star.  Our ancestors knew that our collective future depends on each of us finding and sharing that genius with the world. \n“Don’t go away\, come near.\nDon’t be faithless\, be faithful.\nFind the antidote in the venom.\nCome to the root of the root of yourself. \nMolded of clay\, yet kneaded\nfrom the substance of certainty\,\na guard at the Treasury of Holy Light —\ncome\, return to the root of the root of your Self. \nOnce you get hold of selflessness\,\nYou’ll be dragged from your ego\nand freed from many traps.\nCome\, return to the root of the root of your Self… \nYou are a ruby embedded in granite.\nHow long will you pretend it’s not true?\nWe can see it in your eyes.\nCome to the root of the root of your Self.” \nFrom The Root of the Root of Yourself by Rumi

SUMMARY:The Body Is the Score
DESCRIPTION:The Body Is the Score\nFriday\, November 29th\nFacilitator: Sara Bensman \nA storm blows through and just as it shifts the ground beneath our feet and knocks down trees\, it also stirs up the grief and trauma that has been living in our bodies and overpowers our normal defenses. Dance has always brought us back to our bodies when we feel uprooted or vulnerable. Research now shows that bilateral movements\, shaking and stretching can release trauma\, but as a species\, we have always known this instinctively. This dance is an opportunity to find whatever continues to cling to your spine\, fascia or heart and to offer it up to the rhythms and movement.
