Exploring Fusion Partner Dance Workshop

Friday, May 1st, 2026 – 5:30pm – 7:15 pm before the dance wave
Teacher: Eleanor Chen

This is a special workshop hosted at Warren Wilson College’s Morris Pavilion.  Please park in the areas designated by the pins on this map. Be sure to use overflow parking & Kittrege! Leave nearby parking spots for those with mobility needs.

An all-levels exploration of technique for leading, following, and switching roles in fusion partner dance. Together we’ll go over foundational mechanics for comfortable movement, common partner dance embraces and how they work, and nonverbal tips and tricks for how fusion dancers negotiate collaboration on the social floor. These skills will help us practice the shared presence, musical co-creativity, and confident movement necessary for more connected partner dances.

Thanks to the collaboration with Warren Wilson College’s Wilson Ecstatic Dance Student Activities group, all Warren Wilson Students & Faculty are invited to attend this special event for free. Contributions are still welcomed. Students and faculty please be sure to check the WWC checkbox when signing in. Let your friends know!

Facilitator Notes

As the daughter of a ballet teacher and a contradancer, Eleanor grew up in the ballet studio and first learned to social dance outdoors in the Appalachian mountains. She fell in love with blues and fusion in 2016 and became a DJ and teacher in the West coast fusion scene after years of dedication, playing at national and international events in her first year as a DJ. In true fusion form Eleanor has since studied elements of tango, WCS, urban kiz, zouk, and any other partner dance she can visit, plus solo movement styles. Most known for leading community workshops on social change, Eleanor brings presence and depth to her dance teaching; she works to put students at ease, to make learning approachable and natural, and to incite enthusiasm for doing hard things.
