Let’s gather to honor the resilience of the human spirit—in the spirit of resilience that Maya Angelou speaks of in her powerful words: ‘You may trod me in the very dirt, but still, like dust, I’ll rise.’ After the destruction of Hurricane Helene, we stand here in Asheville, a community that is rising from the ashes, from the mud, transforming pain into purpose, and devastation into renewal. Just as the Phoenix burns and rises from its own flames, we too are called to rise—not just as individuals but as a collective. In this dance, we let go of what no longer serves us, we burn away the old, and we emerge—stronger, wiser, and with an open heart ready for rebirth. We rise into the daybreak, wondrously clear, full of life and hope.” May our purpose be clear and may we find the beauty in beginning again.
