Invitation: Maybe – We’ll See
A farmer and his son worked their farm, with the help of their horse. One day, the horse ran away. When the neighbors found out, they came by to express their sympathy: “What bad luck that was!”The farmer replied, “Maybe – we’ll see.”
A few days later, the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. The neighbors exclaimed, “What good fortune!”
The farmer replied, “Maybe – we’ll see.”
While breaking in one of the new horses, the farmer’s son fell and broke his leg. “That was some terrible luck,” opined the neighbors.
Again, the farmer replied, “Maybe – we’ll see.”
Soon after, the national army came to conscript all able-bodied young men for a hopeless war. With his leg broken, the son was passed over. Again, the neighbors congratulated the farmer on how things had turned out.
